Focussing in on 2009

Well, in  the new year, and the new organisation of the Tasmanian Polytechnic, I will be focussing my attention on the learning resources and elearning side of my current role. As my 15 year old son said “at least you can concentrate on one thing” with the implied addition of ‘and not get so stressed’ later in the conversation. While it is disappointing to be losing my close and formal association with the learning centres and libraries, it has really reminded me of the need for close collaboration between teachers, RDAs and library staff in the arena of learning resources, so informal links, here we come! I’ve spent the weekend wrapping my head around what the future could hold, and started some plotting (as I like to call it).  As part of the restructure everyone has been allocated to a ‘transitional’ role which basically gives the new organisations the option to tweak the structures and roles next year as the shakedown begins.

Got to figure out a better name for my team than “resource development’ though – it sounds so middle aged and not suggestive of elearning tools, techniques and technologies. I quizzed my mother in law and she thought it sounded like the team would write the learning resources for teachers. That is so not what we need to be doing.
