Jonathon and Michael did this an Elluminate session with distant participants and a conference room audience, using a conversational Q & A session.

In the online events there are so many layers of feedback possible.
Time limit – both as participant and faciltator, michael suggests about an hour max. Sensory overload? 6-8 mins max before activity required from participants.

And if the session is not engaging, the people can be emailing etc and it doesn’t get it the way.

They had a window showing the names of the whiteboard screens – must check that out.

Synchronous Compact – has to be worthwhile otherwise there’s a better way of doing/ communicating it. Keep the trust in value.

Multiple facilitators – yes, valuable for tech troubleshooting, with new groups, large groups etc
You could look at participant group members for this role – eg monitoring/ filtering /gathering text chat

Advantages in reducing travel costs (car, time, petrol, lost work)

WIIFM? How do you get people online in the first place. Having a ‘practice session’ beforehand, have someone physically close if possible.

Layering of learning styles thanks to the layering of tools in elluminate

Question from the floor about use of other web based resources such as wikibooks etc (as advocated by Leigh at the skills tas conference earlier in the year) – use a mixture of tools

I must go back to the cstp materials and workshop them with the rda cop and professional learning team.
Video- use strategically, you do make more work for yourself, and people expect that they should watch so it might pull them back from other channels.
